Kitchen Transplant

Sometimes a house already has all the space it needs, but it's just all located in the wrong places. This house had been built for an older couple who enjoyed formal living, and is now owned by a young family with three growing boys. With only a crawl space and no full basement, square footage within the single level house was at a premium. We were invited to help them plan for a small addition to give them some additional space so they could entertain without children and adults having to compete acoustically. The surprising solution was not to add more space, but to transplant the kitchen from one end of the house into the large and centrally located, but never-used, dining room.
